Gordon Wilkins Outside The Old Autocar Offices in 1939
A very kind gentleman sent me this picture of my uncle, Gordon Wilkins, outside what I believe to be the old Autocar offices in Stamford Street London SE1. It's a great picture that shows my uncle, first on the left, ahead of the 1939 Welsh Rally, I don't know the other people in the photograph I'm afraid.

Hello
ReplyDeleteSorry for the random question but do you know if your uncle ever owned a Jaguar XK120? I am trying to research the history of a car that was owned by a Mr G T Wilkins in 1951 and wondered if this might have been your uncle's car? Unfortunately I don't know the original UK number plate of the car - it is currently on the continent and lost its UK plate a long time ago. Does any of that make sense? If it does and you have any info or pictures I’d love to hear it!
Sorry if not but just trying to follow up any leads I have.
Thanks,
James (drjamesfraser@hotmail.com)
I don't believe this is outside Dorset House Stamford Street London SE1. It is a much less impressive building, The entrance to the building is off a fairly narrow pavement on a street that has always been very busy with buses and in those days J.Sainsbury lorries.
ReplyDeletePossibly the Automobile Club?
Regards
Tony
Hi Tony,
ReplyDeleteThanks very much for that info'. I wish Gordon were still around to solve the mystery!
All the best,
Christopher
